Inspiration

We were inspired by the idea of using anaerobic digestors because the moment we desovered them, it sparked our brains into action.

What it does

Anaerobic digesters are advanced compost bins which utilize heat and bacteria to speed up the decomposition process, turning and trapping the waste as methane gas, along with liquid and solid waste products that serve as fertilizers and compost.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were not having enough information of cost of profit to realistically support our claim outside of estimatations and difficulty finding a solution for the specific "customer" we choose.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of finding a realistically achieveable solution that a common university or college would be able to implement quickly.

What we learned

We learned about about the many different ways there are to repurpose organic material at an industrial level.

What's next for Food Waste and Anaerobic Digestors

Next, finding the best type of anaerobic digestor for NIU, installing on campus, and making use of all the resulting product.
