I was inspired by the use of MecSimCalc for engineering applications. I saw alot of applications in structural and geotechnical engineering, but I wondered if it was possible to find an application with some transportation themes.
What it does
Take's general user inputs and outputs targeted restaurant trip data
How we built it
Applied MecSimCalc's built-in environment and front-end in combination with Google Maps and OpenAI's ChatGPT API to parse user inputs toward usable data!
Challenges we ran into
Troubleshooting OpenAI's API turned out to be quite tricky due to how inconsistent the responses can be. Often, the model works for a good amount of time, which speeds up development but then fails at seemingly random intervals, leading to major setbacks in development decisions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
To be able to participate in my first Hackathon and ultimately be able to build a working tool, that can provide decently usable data for a user!
What we learned
A whole lot! Almost impossible to state it all.
What's next for Food Trip Planner
Lots and lots and lots of bug fixes! My original plans during development were a lot larger, but due to certain bugs and hiccups encountered on the way (looking at you GPT API!), the scope is a lot smaller than what I expected to end with.
