Inspiration
As busy students, we found that we often forgot about what food we had in the pantry, which led to us buying duplicates or accidentally leaving food until it was expired and had to throw it away, which caused a lot of food waste
What it does
Food Tracker keeps a list of foods you have in your kitchen and makes note of when it expires, so you can quickly see what foods you already have and what needs/doesn't need to be restocked. Food Tracker can also make note of what ingredients are about to expire and need to be used soon, reducing unnecessary food waste. Even if you accidentally buy too much food, Food Tracker can facilitate donations to food banks, so you can give your extra food to those in need
How we built it
We used Figma for the ui design and java for the console base
Challenges we ran into
We struggled with bugs and errors when trying to run our GUI and when we were trying to connect our ui to our console base
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to solve a problem we and many others face, helping save money, reduce food waste and help those in need/people who are facing food insecurity.
What we learned
We learned problem-solving skills while trying to debug our code and figure out how to make our gui
What's next for Food Tracker
We hope to add more features in the future such as dynamic recipe suggestions based on what foods are about to expire through ai, and to allow users to add food by taking a picture of grocery reciepts using OCR
