Food scarcity in developing and underdeveloped nations has been increasing day by day and as per statistics provided by FAO, nearly 30% amount of food wastage globally and this ultimately leads to starvation.
Basically, we developed an application with two features:
- Garbage Classification
- Food Wastage Solution
We built the frontend part using the react-native framework and backend logic is developed in python using the flask framework. The object detection part is done using google cloud vision API.
1 . Trying to train the models takes a lot of time and choosing the appropriate hyperparameter for the same.
- Communicating frontend application with the servers and data transfer .
Handling external API response.
We were able to produce a full product working demo.
Integration of lots of modules in very less amount of time.
These two days were really good and learning from the google vision API .
Training the models using CNN on images.
Understanding different technologies in a very small period.
It can be a good end product that can include many categories and more information about the food wastage . The next step would be the OCR integration in the product which can scan the expiry date and notify user when it is going to expire.
