Inspiration

This project is a result of the most fundamental demand of today's time, the effort to be sustainable. It is an attempt to connect the downtrodden with the ones who have it in abundance.

What it does

We have made a website to connect event organizers who have an abundance of food with the people who are starving(with(out) the intervention of NGOs).

How we built it

To create the frontend, we used React and MaterialUI and used GoogleMapsAPI to get Autocomplete feature and GoogleMaps to our website. For storing the user profiles and their location, we used Firestore and used Twilio for the sign in authentication.

Challenges we ran into

It was difficult to set up GoogleMapsAPI due to conflicts with React Version and MUI version. As we were setting up Twilio for the first time, we faced a number of issues until we could finally authenticate.

What we learned

We learned the following tools for the first time -

  • Using Environment variables, and using Git extensively
  • Using Google Maps API
  • Using Firebase API
  • Using Twilio

What's next for Food Share

The website has to increase in scalability to ensure its job as a good host.
