Inspiration

Throughout both of our childhoods, we had never had to worry about food security or economic issues. Since we outgrew our community bubble that isolated us from the rest of brute reality, we have become aware that not everyone is as fortunate as we are purely because of predetermined circumstances. We thought this project was the perfect opportunity to initiate a charity organization by creating its website with the possibility of becoming something much more in the future.

What it does

Our website demonstrates the framework of a food supply and distribution service that takes food request from individuals or organizations powered by donations. On the website, one can both send food requests which will be shipped to their address or donate money to the cause.

How we built it

We built the website using Javascript primarily, in addition to HTML and CSS and, although it was not directly included in the project, Firebase. Firebase would have been included to send files between devices if we did not run out of time. This would have enabled any device submitting information for the registration, donation, or request page to be sent to other devices enabling true productivity.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge that we ran into and did not have the time to overcome was a technical error in the HTML files that prevented the use of Firebase to translate files and allow multiple devices to share the same information.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The conversion of arrays to CSV files, which is the first step required to send information between devices through Firebase was a success. Furthermore, the front-end development of the website was notable because it resulted in an easy to use, visually appealing website despite some errors while developing.

What we learned

We learned the steps in order to send information both locally and publicly using Firebase, although it was not used in the project.

What's next for Food Security Network

The next step would be to carry out the use of Firebase and finish set up until it is ready to be used by the public.
