Inspiration~ I grew up in the village in a close knit family with all my parents as farmers. To my teen old self, I thought we were poor because we could take arrowroots cashew nuts, ground nuts, ghee, milk,fish, purple potatoes, Mexican merigold, millet /sorghum porridge etc. I hated this! I loved beacon and fries in my composition at school 😊 little did I know, that we were the richest and strongest in immunity and health. We hardly sickle and up to now. Food is medicine. I learnt.
I moved to the city where I would take my favorite fries and the likes of indomie because it's convenient for me to cook after a tiresome day.
I started to experience belly fats and bloating. My best friend Christine lost her beautiful friendly mother to cancer. I could see family stressed out on facebook Twitter and whatsApp struggling to raise treatment of cancer, diabetes, obesity or high blood pressure. In this same year my uncle and cousin was diagnosed with cancer and diabetes respectively. We've suffered treatment burden henceforth.
So I said to myself, let me create ready market for the small holder farmers to earn a living from their hard work as the consumers access natural nutritious food for their households based on their dietary need and health conditions, so that they would build and strengthen their immunity to keep away nutrient chronic diseases. People with these chronic diseases have high risks of contracting covid 19. This needs address.
What it does~ MediFood avails dietary specific food to our customers based on their health needs. Offer diet counseling and monitoring customers of adherence to diet through a web of:
MEDIFOOD CLINIC~Profiling customers in their dietary health needs, offer diet counseling and monitoring customer adherence. MEDIFOOD KITCHEN~ Prepare and deliver food orders by customers at their convenience offline and online. MEDIFOOD STORE~ Recieve supply of food from the small market farmers sell online and offline to our customers.
How I built it. Build from research, personal experience, people food wishlist and the prevention and containment measures for Covid 19.
Challenges I ran into. Partnering with mobile app delivery service to make it easier and safe as well as transportation of these produce from the grassroots due to poor road transport systems.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of. I started from raising awareness to change the perception that agriculture is not being poor or backward as most people think, especially youths. And it made sense to most of my audience (youth) I'm glad. I have also managed to make my audience understand the relationships between nutrient chronic diseases and foods we consume.
What I learned. Anything is possible with GRIT and inclusion. Achieving food security is possible is possible using local resources sustainably.
What's next for Food security for all. Quality food security free from harmful chemicals and substances and can be consistently available, affordable and accessible to all globally.
