I started this project late in the hackathon after leaving my group because I wanted to actually build something myself. What inspired me was seeing how many college students struggle with food insecurity—they’re busy, stressed, and often don’t have the money or time to eat properly. I wanted to make something that helps.
I built a system using Firebase, Google Maps API, and a Discord bot that forwards free food messages into my app. It was tough to figure out Firebase, connect everything, and get the maps working, but I learned a lot about backend services and APIs.
My vision is that this project can eventually expand beyond college campuses to help homeless or low-income people find free food in their communities.
