Inspiration

Food wastage has become a serious problem. A lot of it occurs in homes where food products often expire before being fully consumed and are later thrown out. A recent study suggests that nearly 400 kilograms of food per year is wasted by every Canadian. According to this study, nearly 47% of that food wastage occurs in homes (link. I wanted to develop a prototype of an app that addresses this issue.

What it does

Food Saver is an app that allows users to scan or enter food items they buy and notifies them when their expiry date is close. It also recommends recipes based on the food items that are close to their expiration date.

How we built it

I built a high-fidelity prototype using Figma.

Challenges we ran into

I had never worked with Figma before so it was very challenging to work with at first.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a user-friendly prototype with a simple user interface.

What we learned

How to use Figma to develop a prototype of an app.

What's next for Food Saver

To develop a fully functional app using Android Studio. To add more original features such as the option for getting tips on how to use fruit and vegetable waste for planting.
