Inspiration
Inspiration: Our inspiration is back in our middle school, I notice that when students finish their lunch there are a lot of leftovers, and all of them will be poured into a large pot. We thought it was such a waste with such amount of food, so we created Food waste rescue radar.
What it does
Food Rescue Radar is an AI-powered Streamlit app that helps schools and community groups predict food waste before it happens and suggest reduction routes.
How we built it
First, we generate basic ideas about what data should we collect from users. Then we started building the web on Github with the help of ChatGPT
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge is that we are pretty new to coding so we had a long while struggling without knowing where to start first.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As this is the first time we have ever build an MVP, we were really excited to test it out successfully at the first try. The fact that we lack computer skills makes our first MVP a miracle. We never could imagine creating an MVP that can estimate food waste risk, visualise historical data and provide practical recommendations. And more importantly, we are pround that our project addressed a real-world environmental issue. Even though it is a simple MVP, we believe it demonstrates how AI can be used to support more sustainable food management in schools and community events.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how to create an app and gain more experience with coding.
What's next for Food Rescue Radar
We hope that in the future we could connect Food waste rescue radar with real social organizations, charities and communities so that users can contact them more easily since many people do not know any organizations even if they want to donate their leftovers.
