Inspiration

We believe that small actions can lead to big changes over time. We found good and edible food getting wasted on one side and people suffering from hunger, people not getting good food on the other side.

What it does

It connects people with surplus food items that are still edible to those in need. The people giving food can be hotels, locals, temples, railways and many more. People receiving food can be students, locals, NGO's etc..

How we built it

We built the website using technologies, frontend : HTML5, CSS3, BS4,JS backend:PHP, database was accessed using MYSQL. The android app was built using Thunkable.

Challenges we ran into

Backend connectivity was tough. We were unable to connect our android app to a live database.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building our first app using thunkable. Working website with user authentication and live feed of food posts which is accessible to all.

What we learned

Food wastage is a big issue and can be minimized a lot by adapting very few changes. Building our first app using thunkable. Working on backend, and database manipulation.

What's next for Food Rescue

Adding the option to exchange food and groceries which are obsolete for him but useful for others at the present time. Bonus rewards system and rating system for users. Collecting info area/locality wise to monitor food wastage and display on the website. Chat messaging between two parties. Call based posting service for rural areas. Live free food location posts e.g. location of any Bhandara.
