Inspiration

Many food pantries are limiting their in-store "shopping" experience due to COVID and they are frustrated with the online order management and delivery, and they are slow in processing data. We want to build this application to smooth out the complexity in food pantry management and help more people get access to the food resources around Madison.

What it does

Food.io is a pantry database platform for people in food shortage to get their food by searching and ordering items in advance.

How we built it

React, Node(Express),MySQL

Challenges we ran into

We really have limited time and also have to learn new techniques, so really have a hard time debugging the code with no sleep at all.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We have a live DB, frontend and backend running
  • We collaborate with each other and have detailed organization
  • We are happy with the prototype we have as of now
  • The UI is fancy lol

What we learned

  • You need to sleep before debugging your code
  • You can't do zombie no sleep coding
  • React, MySQL, Yarn, Express, Nodes.
  • Unhandled promise rejection error

What's next for Food.IO

  • Implement the interface for the pantry owner to process the order
  • Send email notification to users
