Inspiration
We were inspired specifically one of our teammate's story, someone who has been in and out of doctors offices with severe unknown abdominal pain for the past 2 years. There is no test for food intolerances besides recording a food diary and using elimination diets, which can be extremely hard to manage.
What it does
This website is a personal food diary for anyone struggling with unknown abdominal pain or potential food intolerances. It tracks all your meals and your pain scale throughout the day, picking out ingredients and detecting a common thread of what could be a possible food intolerance.
How we built it
We built this website, starting with making mock-up design sketches and a document of each front-end page and what we wanted our site to do. After we had our idea, we used collaborative vs code to make each page together as a team.
Challenges we ran into
Many of the challenges that we ran into along the way were technical. At first we had a hard time dividing the work between backend and frontend. Furthermore, no one on our team was familiar with frontend (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript). So a couple members of our team had to learn the syntax and how these languages work with each other. Another problem that was encountered was putting all of our code together on the Git repository since each of our local files were organized poorly. Finally, and probably most importantly, we needed to understand how to make the UI most helpful to someone who would be trying to find their possible food intolerance which took much trial and error.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to divvy up the work in a way that each of the members of our team carried an equal weight. Also, the two members of our team are proud of being able to learn HTML and CSS through each of the tiny formatting errors that were encountered. And together we are proud that we made a website that could provide some help to those experiencing otherwise undiagnosed discomfort.
What we learned
As all of us are new coders, we learned how to program with html and CSS for the first time, as well as using the GitHub repository. We all watched tutorials and were very proud to see a working site in the end.
What's next for Food Intolerance Diary
We are wanting to finish implementing certain features such as the calendar, so you can see/edit/delete past meal entries and see common threads for yourself. In addition, we want to make a functioning inbox and use AI web scraping to do better research of what could be an intolerance.
