Inspiration
Food is a resource that we should be guaranteed at birth, yet there are so many people that don't have access to it. We wanted to create a site that would tackle this problem and allow people to donate food that others could use. Although we ran into many challenges, we ended our website with a smile on our faces, knowing how much it would help everyone.
What it does
- Using Food From Bots, families or restaurants can donate extra food they have
- If someone is in need of food, they can fill out a form and select a bot which will come and deliver their chosen product(s).
How we built it
We built Food From Bots (FFB) using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on Replit and VS code. Our whole team pitched in and helped create the final product.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we ran into was replit. It just wouldn't work and sometimes it would reset the cold so we had to retype it again and again and that was the MAJOR frustration point for the team. So, we started again on VS Code, which turned out to be much better.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're very proud of completing the website as we envisioned it. Every challenge we overcame was a small victory worth celebrating and that gave us the hope to keep moving forward. However, a key component of our success was collaboration. If we didn't all work together, who know how FFB would have turned out!
What we learned
We learned many, many things like becoming better coders, web-development, formatting pages, overcoming challenges, working together in a team, and so much more! Our biggest takeaway, though, was that sometimes mistakes can turn into an even greater success than we imagined.
What's next for Food From Bots
We would want to incorporate AI into our website so that when someone is sending in a bot, we can verify that it is safe and ready for human consumption. We would also want to expand our idea and take it to the next level by including a chat bot that will ask people what type of food they prefer to make our website even more user-interactive.
