Inspiration
Restaurants and local businesses are hurting due to the pandemic reducing foot traffic to their doors. Simultaneously, medical workers are overworked and overburdened holding the frontline against the pandemic. We came up with a way to help restaurants raise short-term capital to pay their maintenance costs while also showing our appreciation to the essential medical workers.
What it does
Allows people to donate towards campaign to bring essential workers food and drinks while they're on the job. People will receive rewards such as discounts and other incentives towards their favorite restaurants when donating towards campaigns. Restaurants will thus have a constant order stream to pay their bills.
How we built it
It was built the web app in flask, created the database using SQLite and integrated into flask using SQLAlchemy. Finally we hosted the app on Heroku.
Challenges we ran into
None of us had any experience with flask and heroku, so this was all learned on the spot.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a tiered web app with a database layer, application layer, and client side was a great accomplishment for us.
What we learned
Many different programming skills and frameworks.
What's next for Food for Thought
Involving Restaurants and businesses in the project.
