When you click on the button, the extension looks at your current recipe and gives it a score and suggestions.
-
When we hover over a suggestion, it expands and shows some additional information about why we are suggesting something.
-
You can scroll and look at the other suggestions. All the suggestions are applicable to the current recipe.
Inspiration: We thought about how we can provide an easy educational tool that would help people who were trying to eat more sustainable.
What it does: We take an online recipe and give it a sustainability score based on the ingredients in the recipe. We also give suggestions on how to eat more sustainably.
How we built it: We scraped the page for the ingredients and, based on what was in the recipe, gave suggestions on how to eat more sustainably and a sustainability score.
Challenges we ran into: No one on our team knew how to code in JavaScript or HTML so we all had to learn from scratch. There were a lot of syntactical and configuration issues as a result.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We're proud of how much we could do without much experience and also how our final project ended up looking.
What's next for Food for Thought: There are so many ways we could improve our web extension including having a more robust list of foods or adding a goals tracker.
