Inspiration
“58% of all food produced in Canada is lost or wasted.” (CBC News, 2019) After reading this headline, we thought about how much excess food could be donated instead of being wasted. That's why we decided to design Food for Everyone, an accessible mobile application that connects food banks to restaurants.
What it does
Our mobile application allows restaurants to update their inventory daily. Food banks can then request to pick up excess food. Its benefits include: 1) Easy-to-use user interface 2) Real-time data updates 3) Filtered location services
What we learned
Through experimenting with HTML coding and UI design, we found that our skillsets lie in design. This project required creativity and innovation, not to mention a lot of effort! Through our project, we learned that communication, perseverance, and hard work is key to success.
What's next for Food For Everyone
We are grateful to have participated in xHacks 2021 and look forward to putting our new and improved design skills to the test in future hackathons!
