Inspiration

Inspired by Dungeon Meshi, a show where characters fight and cook fantasy monsters, as well as the classic JRPG games like early Final Fantasy installments. Minecraft and Stardew Valley's iconic pixel art inspired the artstyle.

What it does

A little 4 directional navigator with big, food sprites. They're formidable enemies.

How we built it

We used Godot and its engine's script (GDScript), as well as art programs like Libresprite, to build both the aesthetic front end and the

Challenges we ran into

Many. So many. Several times character motion broke, pixel drawings were lost, and major nodes or scripts were deleted. Furthermore, we couldn't integrate the two desired modes of gameplay--exploration and turn-based combat.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of never going to sleep, our commitment to building our first game together, even through extreme adversity, and our persevering teamwork.

What we learned

It's much harder to develop a game than you think! Art is just as strenuous and important to the identity of a game as is the code and structure.

What's next for Food Fight

We'll go home and figure out how to reintegrate the modes of play. We'll retexture the art, clean up the movement, and add more scenery, as well as more levels. Screen recording is currently preventing my demo from running, so I can't provide a video beforehand, but I can provide a live demo.
