Inspiration
In the community that we are living in, there's a good rate of poverty and many of our classmates are suffering from the lack of food available to them with the pandemic it becomes more difficult for them to find food to eat. Since almost everyone owns a smartphone so we came up with the idea of creating an app that will help people in need of food find distribution locations.
What it does
Our app is to help those who are in need of food find places that distribute food easily and within 10 miles from their homes.
How we built it
To make it easier for users, we merged both the food distributor's application where they put the address of the place they are going to give food away in and the second application page for the people who need the food to put their zip code and find the closest food distribution service to them into one complete application. This way, they don’t have to worry about which app to download and even include a Guest option.
Challenges we ran into
Compared to other versions of MIT App Inventor like Kodular, this one is very limited to what you can do and edit. There are also a lot of visual elements missing by default.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we are observant enough to be able to create an app that is going to serve our community and help people in need.
What we learned
We learned that it requires a lot of imagination to design the app interface but once we get what we want to do, it’s usually easier.
What's next for Food Distribution Locator
Our next move is to make the app more functional including connecting it to the database, then market the app for more people to know about it and be able to help as many people that we can through the app.
