Inspiration
What inspired us to work on this website is the Black Wings hackathon theme: Social good. We wanted to figure out a way to help our communities. One issue we were passionate about was solving homelessness and reducing food waste.
What it does
Our website displays information to connect volunteers, donors and long-term sponsors, and offers a map to find specific locations where help is needed.
How we built it
We built our website using HTML and CSS, we wanted to incorporate more but due to the timeframe, we kept the basic functionalities.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges we ran into were: Time management due to timezone differences, using tools (Technical issues encountered when trying to click on the resources), and making the Google maps API work correctly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite how simple it is, we're proud of how our website came into reality. We wish to carry on improving this project to reach its potential, and we hope that in the future, our website could be used to connect donors to people in need directly.
What we learned
Using Flex, embedding a map on a website, making a long scroll website.
What's next for Food Connections
Working on the JavaScript part, adding the backend and APIs (for the map and the email).
