🍽️ FoodBridge

The Story Behind It

Every day, tons of perfectly edible food are wasted while millions of people struggle with hunger. The problem isn't always food availability, it's the lack of an efficient way to connect those with surplus food to those who need it.

FoodBridge was built to bridge that gap by creating a simple platform where food donors and verified receivers can connect, coordinate, and ensure that surplus food reaches people instead of landfills.

Key Features

  • Dual-role architecture : Separate, purpose-built profiles for donors and receivers, so each side only sees what's relevant to them instead of a generic one-size-fits-all interface.

  • Proximity-based alerts : Receivers are notified only about donations within a 5km radius, keeping the platform hyper-local, practical, and realistic for actual pickup.

  • Request-accept-collect workflow : A clear, trackable chain of custody: request → acceptance → collection → confirmation. This isn't just a listing board; it's a full transaction lifecycle.

  • Closed-loop notifications : Both sides stay informed at every step, so donors know their food didn't just disappear and receivers know their request was seen and honored.

  • Built for trust, not just convenience : By requiring explicit accept and collect confirmations, FoodBridge reduces the two biggest failure points in food-sharing apps: no-shows and donations claimed but never picked up.

Whom this helps:

Households and businesses with surplus food who want an easy, guilt-free way to give it away instead of tossing it. Individuals and families nearby who need access to food but don't always have a direct channel to find it. And indirectly, the environment — every donation collected through FoodBridge is food that didn't end up in a landfill.

Impact

FoodBridge turns a universal, everyday problem - wasted food sitting five minutes away from someone who needs it - into a solvable, local, human-scale transaction. It doesn't ask people to change their routines or donate to a distant cause; it simply makes the food already around them visible and reachable in real time. Every completed donation is a double win: less waste, one less person going without a meal.
