Inspiration
Have you ever been to a hackathon in the early morning without having breakfast and felt no energy to do the work? Have you ever waken up in a rainy day, feeling down by the weather and want some comfort food to eat but have no idea what to eat? Our website was born to eliminate decision fatigue by pairing food directly with the user’s current mood and weather conditions.
What it does
Food Boost is a fast, intuitive web application that recommends the perfect meal based on how you feel and what it looks like outside:
- Input Mood & Weather: Users simply select their current mood state (Good or Bad) and enter their city/track current location for weather state.
- Smart Food Pairing: The web instantly filters through paired meal recommendations tailored to soothe, energize, or comfort the user.
- Instant Restaurant Locator: With a single click on "Find Nearest Restaurants" dropdown, the web dynamically redirects users to Google Maps pre-loaded with local results nearby based on their real-time location. ## How we built it
- Frontend: Built with React (powered by Vite) and styled using Tailwind CSS for a responsive, modern UI.
- Backend: Powered by a Node.js & Express RESTful API that handles input processing, filtering logic, and returning paired food dynamic datasets. ## Challenges we ran into
- Time & Scope Management: Building a fully functional full-stack web application within a strict 6-hour hackathon window required tight coordination and strict MVP scoping.
- Synchronizing state management between React components and Express API endpoints while avoiding code merge conflicts among four team members working simultaneously. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Finish setting up weather API and project's scope and necessary functions. ## What we learned
- Teamwork
- Build a project from scratch ## What's next for Food Boost
- Automatic Weather Tracking: Integrating the OpenWeatherMap API and browser Geolocation to automatically detect live weather conditions.
- In-App Interactive Maps: Embedding native Google Maps views to display distance, pricing, and ratings directly within the app UI.
