Nowadays there are infinite of "fitness" applications on the market. However, we wanted to explode this low-code-platform and demonstrate that as an Appian Developer you can achieve a quite complex and easy-to-use application in not so much time.
What it does
This application is meant to help people change their lifestyle in an easy way. Is a tool to measure food and exercise habits, so people can see the results of their efforts, also giving them recommendations to achieve faster their goals.
How we built it
As a first step we had to do some research about all concerning nutrition. What is it? how to calculate daily intake of nutrients for a person? how to take into account variables as age, weight, height, etc? After that, we focused on interfaces designing. We wanted to achieve a look and feel adequate for the user by using new features of Appian, as gauges, reports or others.
Challenges we ran into
- To develop a friendly user interface.
- Integrate Google assistant into our application.
- Understand the big picture about nutrition and how to apply it to our application
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We learned a lot about nutrition and now we have a good understanding of how our body process different kind of nutrients and at the same time, we were able to implement all of this knowledge into our application in such a way we achieved an accurate application for nutrients intake
What we learned
We learned about the new Appian features but as experienced developers we were able to improve some skills such as: create complex relationships between CDTs, develop complex expression rules, designing of friendly interfaces with new appian features, etc.
What's next for Food and Activity Tracker
We would like to implement other kind of integrations such as “live coaching”.
