Inspiration
I started FontDance because custom font creation still feels too hard for most people. You can have a strong visual idea, a logo style, or a reference image, but turning that into a real usable font file usually means learning font software and manually drawing glyphs.
What it does
FontDance turns text prompts or reference images into downloadable TTF and WOFF2 font files. Users can generate a font idea, preview the result, save it to their account, and download files they can install or use in design projects.
How I built it
I built FontDance as a web app with an AI generation workflow, preview rendering, account-based font history, credits, and protected downloads. A big part of the work was connecting the creative generation step with practical font export, so the output is not just an image but an actual font file.
Challenges I ran into
The hardest parts were preview quality, font file export, and making the result feel usable instead of just experimental. I also had to handle downloads, credits, payments, user accounts, and a lot of small UX details around generation progress and saved fonts.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud that FontDance can go from a simple idea or image reference to real TTF and WOFF2 files in one flow. I’m also happy with the account history and download workflow, because it makes the generated fonts feel like assets users can actually keep.
What I learned
I learned that AI generation is only one part of the product. The surrounding workflow matters just as much: previewing, saving, downloading, naming files, handling failed generations, and making the output understandable for users.
What's next for FontDance
Next I want to improve font quality, add more example font collections, support more character coverage, and make image-to-font generation more reliable for designers and creators.
