Inspiration
The inspiration for LandSecure came from personal experiences with land fraud in Senegal. One of our teammates witnessed their father lose millions to a scam where the same land was sold to multiple buyers. Another teammate’s mother faced a similar issue when a neighbor illegally built on her property. These stories highlighted the urgent need for a transparent and secure system to manage land ownership.
We realized that Digital IDs and blockchain technology could revolutionize the way land ownership is recorded and verified, putting an end to fraud and disputes.
What We Learned
Through this project, we learned about the complexities of land ownership laws in Senegal, the challenges of implementing blockchain in real-world systems, and the importance of user-friendly design for widespread adoption. We also discovered how geolocation and smart contracts can be integrated to create a seamless experience for users.
How We Built It
We built LandSecure using a combination of cutting-edge technologies:
- Digital IDs to uniquely identify property owners.
- Blockchain to create an immutable record of land transactions.
- Geolocation APIs to precisely map and verify land boundaries.
- Mobile and web applications to make the system accessible to everyone.
Challenges We Faced
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring the system was user-friendly for people with limited technical knowledge. We also had to navigate the legal and regulatory landscape of land ownership in Senegal. Finally, integrating blockchain with existing systems required significant technical expertise and collaboration.
