Inspiration
The limitations of the blockchain inspired me. That and my love for card & board games. Poker and Chess were a good way to "hack in" seemingly arbitrary rules that people are already familiar with.
What it does
It's a game. 4 kings start in 4 corners in a random turn order. Players will draw cards each round and they can use those cards to cast spells or summon pieces to the board. They goal is to kill the other player's kings.
How we built it
Visual Studio, Ganache & Remix
Challenges we ran into
Testing the code. Balancing the game. Figuring out mechanics to tuck into the game. Lots of these. Lots of this. Optimizing contract size. Lots of that too.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It really feels like a table top card game. The spells go in good combination with each other & when you pull off a combo it feels genuinely epic.
What we learned
I already knew enough about solidity and javascript to work out some idea for the game. What I learned is that even though I didn't have a plan for marketing, that if I built something I was genuinely passionate about, opportunities like this hackathon would arise.
What's next for Fomochess
Potentially NFT & token integrations or repurposing the engine/coding-techniques for a broader game.
