Inspiration

In most workplaces, the biggest problem after a meeting isn't the discussion, it's the follow-up. Action items get buried in notes, promises made in passing are forgotten, and managers end up chasing people to find out who owns what. We wanted to build something that turns "I'll get that to you by 3 PM" into a tracked, visible commitment, so nothing falls through the cracks.

What it does

Follow Through is an AI-powered assignment tool that lets leaders turn meeting notes into assigned tasks with almost no effort. Paste in a transcript or notes, and the app pulls out the commitments people made, who made them, who they were made to, and when they're due.

  • Command center dashboard: Shows active commitments, unowned tasks, overdue items, and a team reliability score at a glance.
  • Needs owner queue: Flags tasks that came out of a meeting without a clear owner so someone can claim them.
  • Proactive text nudges: Sends pings to team members' phones when a task is claimed or when a deadline is approaching, so reminders reach people where they'll actually see them.
  • Daily audio briefing: Generates a spoken "Morning Executive Standup" that summarizes active promises, today's deadlines, and risks.

How we built it

  • Python powers the backend logic and ties our services together.
  • Gemini API reads meeting notes and extracts commitments, owners, and deadlines.
  • TigerData stores our commitments and workspace data.
  • Photon iMessage sends text reminders and claim notifications to team members' phones.
  • ElevenLabs synthesizes the daily audio briefing.
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript make up the front-end dashboard.

Challenges we ran into

Our challenges were many. We spent a lot of time debugging, and since most of the tools were new to us, we had to learn each one as we built with it. The hardest part was getting the front end and back end to communicate reliably so the dashboard reflected real data and actions like claiming a task or sending a ping actually triggered on the other side.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we learned to make real use of so many unfamiliar tools in a short amount of time. Most of all, we're proud that we shipped a fully working website. This is our first hackathon, and each of us has only a few years of coding experience, so building something functional end to end feels like a big milestone for us.

What we learned

We learned how to use multiple new tools and, just as importantly, how to combine our individual coding experience to work as a team. We came away with a much better sense of how to connect APIs, a database, messaging, and a front end into one working product.

What's next for Follow Through

We'd like to add integrations with the tools teams already use, such as calendar and Slack, support for live meeting transcription, and smarter reliability tracking so managers can see how well commitments are kept over time.
