Robocalls make me see red! The only way to stop them is to cut them off at the source; to put those who do not cooperate with those of us striving to successfully resolve this "hotline" issue (especially for those of us who have dutifully requested inclusion on the "do not call list") "in the red."
I want to build on whatever the lasting effects are on other miscreants, now that the FTC successfully obtained to disconnect five of the biggest offenders. Of course, as things stand, as soon as a court order shuts down one such illegal operation, another one emerges to take its place- that's where my solution comes in: Ultimately, it is the phone companies that lease their lines and assign phone numbers, so my solution involves making the buck stop with the phone companies.
If my plan is implemented, going forward, every phone number that is issued will have enough phone company-generated paperwork behind it so as to establish the identity of any person and/or entity abusing the privilege of leasing a phone line.
The heavy fines imposed upon phone companies that fail to take this preventive measure will be enough incentive to make it worth the companies' while to cooperate with regulators and the increased certainty of detection sooner, rather than later, will deprive robocallers of any incentive to continue the practice of robocalling.
