Inspiration

Students often struggle to maintain focus while studying because of constant phone notifications and distractions. We wanted to explore how a television could become a more comfortable, distraction-free study environment.

What it does

FocusTV is a concept for a TV-first study companion. It aims to help students organize study sessions, practise through interactive quizzes, and track their learning progress using a simple interface designed for a television screen and remote control.

How we built it

We are developing FocusTV with a focus on readable layouts, straightforward navigation, and a beginner-friendly user experience. Our planned approach uses a TV-compatible application framework and local sample data to implement the core study experience.

Challenges we ran into

Designing for a television requires a different approach from designing for a phone or computer. The interface must be readable from a distance, and users must be able to navigate every important action using a remote control.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have defined a focused product idea that addresses a practical student problem. Our priority is to turn that idea into a functional prototype with a clear purpose and a simple user experience.

What we learned

This project has helped us think about accessibility, TV-first interface design, remote navigation, and the importance of prioritizing essential features when working with limited development time.

What's next for FocusTV

Our next steps are to complete the prototype, test the core interactions on a compatible Fire TV development environment, improve usability based on testing, and explore additional study tools.
