Inspiration
When trying to come up with ideas for a project, we all agreed that a lot of the todo apps for today don't work as well as they could. They don't hold the attention of their users and often become boring which drives away the people who genuinely need these apps, like all of us on the team, to remember things and get things done.
What it does
The point of the app is to be insistent enough to encourage accomplishing your goals while also being fun and rewarding when you do. The final product will eventually include insistent reminders so you are forced to stop getting distracted by your phone when you should be doing your tasks as well as different mini games and character/world design as rewards for completing tasks. This will keep the interest of our users and make getting things done less of a chore and more about fun.
How we built it
We used React in Javascript for the coding portion as well as craigsdennis/vanilla-chat-workers-ai to create an interactive chatbot in our app that can motivate and help users as well as reflect the attitudes and manner of speaking of the user back to them to make the experience feel more personalized. For the visual side of things, we used canva to create the designs and layouts of the screens.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some challenges building the model for the rest of our program and various little problems here and there, but we worked through them and hope to continue fixing and expanding on this project even after the hackathon ends.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to overcome the challanges and create our first screen and more!
What we learned
We learned a lot from this experience since most of us had never tried to make an app before. We learned more about programming in Javascript, the process of coding an app, working with ai chatbots within the project and also as a tool to help us program, and utilizing canva as a design tool while trying to work out how to code that.
What's next for Focuspresso
In the future, we would like to add a more built up notification system that will send continuous reminders until snoozed to stop people from just turning off the reminder and continuing to not do their tasks. We also want to include more gamifying pieces including a little character that can be designed and accessorized, minigames as rewards for completing a certain number of tasks, maybe even a storyline or more decoratable elements. The sky is the limit!
