Inspiration
Many students spend a lot of time searching for explanations and practice questions online. Sometimes, the available materials are too difficult or do not match their level. I wanted to create a simple tool that helps students understand new topics and practice what they have learned.
This inspired me to build LearnForge, an AI-powered learning assistant designed to make studying more accessible and interactive.
What it does
LearnForge helps students learn different subjects through personalized explanations and interactive quizzes.
Students can:
- Choose a subject and learning level.
- Enter any topic they want to study.
- Generate AI-powered explanations.
- Create quizzes with multiple-choice questions.
- Receive feedback and explanations after answering questions.
- Track their quiz results and learning progress.
- Use built-in demonstration content.
The goal is to help students move from understanding a topic to practicing it in one place.
How I built it
I developed LearnForge using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the user interface and Node.js for the backend.
I integrated the Gemini API to generate explanations and quizzes based on the student's chosen topic and level.
The application stores quiz history locally in the browser. I used GitHub to publish the source code and Render to deploy the working website.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was connecting the website to the AI service and making sure the generated content appeared correctly.
I also had to handle API errors, improve the user interface, and make the application work outside my local computer.
Deploying the project was another challenge because I had to configure the server, environment variables, and hosting settings correctly.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud that I built and deployed a working AI-powered educational application.
LearnForge can generate explanations and quizzes, check answers, and save learning progress. It is accessible through a public website rather than only running on my computer.
What I learned
During this project, I learned more about frontend development, Node.js, working with APIs, handling errors, and deploying web applications.
I also learned how important it is to test an application from the user's perspective and keep API keys secure.
What's next for LearnForge
In the future, I would like to add image uploads for homework questions, more detailed progress analytics, and additional ways to personalize the learning experience.
