Inspiration

  • We’ve all used timers that interrupt us when we’re focused or keep us working when we’re already tired. We wanted to make a productivity tool that listens to the person, not just the clock.

What it does

  • FocusFlow uses a webcam and the Presage SDK to track signals like heart rate and breathing while someone works. It can extend a session when the user is in a good flow state, or suggest a break or breathing exercise when stress levels rise. Afterwards, it shows a simple summary of tasks completed, focus time, stress, and distractions.

How we built it

  • We built FocusFlow as a web app with a task manager, focus timer, biometric dashboard, coaching suggestions, and session report. Presage provides the webcam-based biometric data, which we use to make the timer adapt to the user. We also designed a calm, modern interface with a mountain theme and glass-style panels.

Challenges we ran into

  • Biometric data can change for lots of reasons, so it was difficult to decide when the app should take action without being annoying. We also had to show useful information without making the screen feel overwhelming.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We’re proud that we created more than just another Pomodoro timer. FocusFlow uses Presage in a practical way to help people manage stress and work more sustainably. We’re also proud of building a polished working concept in a short amount of time as a team of 2.

What we learned

  • We learned that biometric data is most useful when it leads to simple actions, rather than just being displayed on a dashboard. We also learned that adaptive technology needs to feel supportive and give the user control.

What's next for FocusFlow

  • Next, we’d test FocusFlow with students and improve the coaching based on real feedback. We’d also add personal baselines, calendar integrations, more task tools, and better recommendations for when to work, rest, or switch tasks.
