Inspiration
The inspiration of Focus World comes from the love of Game development and Life Simulation. Our aim is to encourage users especially among students to achieve a certain amount of productivity every day and reward them. Target users include students and office workers but that is not the limit, of course!
What it does
In order to obtain rewards from their level of productivity, they would have to use a built-in timer in the game where once you have initiated the timer, users cannot leave the app until the timer reaches zero. If users leave the app, it would result in a 20 seconds warning, where they are prompted to return to the app. Failing to comply with the warning, users would not be rewarded. However, it is important to mention that users would not be heavily punished. This is so that we could keep the game as casual as possible.
How we built it
We are beginner game Developer where we only started learning about it this summer. We have used a game engine called Unity to include the UI and game logic of our app.
Challenges we ran into
There is a lot to learn when using the game engine since we are still a complete beginner and to make the prototype of the game to work in just 2 days is actually a really crazy idea, but we are proud to say that we were able to do so, and of course, thank you to all the youtubers who gave a really good tutorial!
What's next for Focus World
Of course this is not the end for us and we would still want to make this app to work perfectly. Future development includes the implementation of joystick for android user, a built in music bot where users can listen to songs while in the app. In terms of gaming experience, we would allow room expansion after leveling up, for instance if players were to reach a certain amount of level, they are allowed to expand their room.. Users can also adopt pets. In terms of functionality, we wanted to introduce statistics where they can see their level of productivity and last but not least, we would like to create multiplayers where users are able to visit their friends and study together which could potentially double their rewards, hence, encouraging group studies!
