Focus with T-rex

Inspiration

We are the kind of people who find it hard to focus on a given task at hand until and unless something is at stake. So we wanted to build a productivity (Pomodoro) app which can help people like us 🤩

What it does

This is a Pomodoro/productivity app that will encourage you to focus without getting distracted. It rewards you with dino(s) if you complete a session 🦕🥰, but if you give up before completing a session, meteors will hit your Jurassic Park and some of your dinos will be killed 🦕😥. You also earn/lose some coins with every session depending on the length of your focus session.

How we built it

We built it using ReactJS and basic CSS and JS.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was incorporating the local storage feature since we didn't want the progress to get lost.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the UI, it looks pretty good according to me. Also, the fact that this is a fully functional web app, which we can actually use, also stores your progress locally, so you can keep building your Jurassic Park and earning coins.

What we learned

We learned that database usage is not always necessary if want to store the data, temporarily we can use local storage, and we learned ReactJS life-cycle methods.

What's next for Focus with T-Rex

We want to introduce a sign-in feature so that users do not lose their data. I would also like our Jurassic Park to look more visually appealing, by showing the dinos we currently have (as of now, you can only see the number of dinos you have)
