Inspiration - Itunes store vibes and the need for a pomodoro clock but not affording one
What it does - a pomodoro clock with a suite for notes, timers, and tasks all private to the user no cloud involved
How we built it - started with a browser-first prototype inspired by the windows itunes app aesthetic, then stripped away decorative noise to focus on real functionality. Built with vanilla JavaScript, localStorage persistence, and a state-driven architecture that keeps the UI responsive and the data in sync.
Challenges we ran into
the biggest hurdle was resisting the urge to add "cool" features that looked good but didn't actually help users focus like ambience effects, wind sounds, fake animations all felt dishonest.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
every action flows logically into the next, and all progress persists locally without any backend.
What we learned
Vanilla JavaScript state management, localStorage persistence, CSS custom properties and gradient animations, semantic HTML, and structuring event-driven UIs without frameworks.
What's next for Focus Flow
add session analytics (daily focus time, task completion trends) and custom session templates so power users can tailor their workflows. Eventually, we'd love to add cross-device sync and a companion mobile app so your focus sessions follow you anywhere.
