Focus Corner

Inspiration:

I’ve lived with ADHD my whole life, which is great for creativity and terrible for actually finishing things. Even after ten years as a professional project manager, I still rely on tricks to outsmart my wandering brain — like body doubling, visible timers, and creating cozy digital corners to park my attention so I don’t end up scrolling the void for hours.

Over time, I cobbled together random tricks, playlists, and YouTube lo-fi streams (these have millions of views, so there’s clearly a huge appetite for this). But the ads were disruptive, and I could never find one place that combined all my tricks in a way that really worked for me. So I built it myself!

What it Does:

Focus Corner pulls together real science and wraps it in something soft, slightly mischievous, and actually fun.

Pick your buddy: maybe it’s Sunny the dramatic cat, Max the loyal dog, Sophie the wise owl, or Luna the sparkly cloud. They’re your virtual “body double,” an accountability sidekick that keeps you gently anchored and less likely to vanish into your tabs. Body doubling is an accountability trick that really works for my ADHD brain and could work for anyone struggling to get things done!

Set your vibe: choose your theme, layer in lo-fi beats, rain sounds, or a calming hum (sound mixing coming soon).

Decorate your corner: place stickers, scale them, rotate them — this tiny bit of creative procrastination is intentional. It’s a dopamine boost that tricks your brain into starting.

Visible timeboxing: lock it in, hit start, and see a big, clear Pomodoro timer counting down. It breaks up big, scary tasks into short, snackable sprints so you don’t feel trapped.

Stay organized: your task list stays right there with you — you can see it, and celebrate each tiny win.

Celebrate the finish line: when you’re done, Focus Corner rewards you with a shareable moment so you can show off your beautiful, focused little world.

All of this stacks tiny wins on top of tiny wins, turning procrastination into momentum.

How I Built It:

I built Focus Corner entirely solo in Bolt — with zero experience launching a web app before this. I sketched the flow in Canva, wrestled with Figma for the first time ever, made images in Midjourney & Photopea, gathered cozy visuals and stickers, and then guided Bolt step by step until what I saw in my head actually existed on screen.

Challenges I Ran Into:

The biggest headache? Making the sticker feature work. I wanted users to scale, place, and rotate cute little things — not just for fun but because it warms up the creative brain. I spent about 12 hours wrestling with prompts, libraries I didn’t know existed, and bouncing between Bolt, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and anything else that might help. When it finally clicked, the rest came together fast.

Accomplishments I’m Proud Of:

I’m proud that I built something I genuinely needed for myself, and I think it could help others too. I made the UX, the branding, the flow, and all the visuals just by prompting and uploading my own work. Focus Corner is exactly the thing I wish existed years ago, and now it does.

What I Learned:

I learned that with the right tools and enough curiosity, you don’t need to be a developer to build something meaningful anymore. I learned to break big, fuzzy ideas into clear steps and then push through until they actually work. And I learned that it’s possible to take the science behind ADHD and wrap it in something gentle and beautiful that actually helps.

What’s Next for Focus Corner:

Next up, I want to expand Focus Corner into a full app with real ambient sound mixing, more sticker packs, more buddies with unique personalities, smooth social sharing, and a mobile version so you can build your focus corner anywhere. I want to offer a version for free to help people like me, but also offer a paid version that offers more option and functionality for people who are vibing with it and want to go deeper. I really want to help people feel calmer, get started, and actually feel good about getting things done, because I know how badly I needed this, and I know others do too.
