Inspiration
From the moment I started college, I was determined to create opportunities for myself and generate a stable income. My initial attempt was entering the EV industry, but it quickly failed. We were inexperienced, competing against established players with robust infrastructures. Our idea wasn’t patent-worthy or groundbreaking enough, and it became clear that we couldn’t move forward in that space.
However, what I did gain from that experience was an incredible team of 5 of in domains of — tech, designing, and content creator. Together, we tried to build our first MVP and laid down a business strategy that formed the foundation for what came next.
On a pivotal call with a friend, we discussed what we should do next. That’s when FOCS was born—a simple yet powerful idea: to leverage our team’s strengths to provide services, and based on our experiences, create a training program for students like us. We envisioned building full-fledged service wings in tech, design, and content creation, offering both services to businesses and practical, hands-on training to students.
FOCS became more than just a project; it will be a platform where students like us can grow, learn, and gain real-world experience, while also delivering quality services to businesses. At the same time, businesses benefit from receiving consistent, high-quality freelance services, all within a controlled environment that ensures accountability and reliability.
What it does
FOCS is a structured freelance ecosystem that combines educational elements with the practical benefits of freelancing. Our platform is designed to help students grow professionally by providing them with real-world work experience through freelance projects. At the same time, businesses benefit from receiving consistent, high-quality freelance services, all within a controlled environment that ensures accountability and reliability. We align with Business Innovation Challenge #1 As businesses increasingly rely on digital solutions, many struggle to find affordable, skilled freelance talent to meet their needs. Small to medium-sized businesses, in particular, face challenges in sourcing reliable, high-quality freelancers for tech, design, content, and data projects. Meanwhile, students seeking freelance experience often lack structured training and real-world opportunities, leading to missed chances for both personal and professional growth. Existing platforms fail to bridge the gap, offering little in the way of quality assurance, mentorship, or industry-specific guidance, which results in unreliable service and limited opportunities for meaningful skill development.
