Inspiration

We were inspired in how we, as students, spend hours on end and late into the night working. Thus, we decided to create a tool to help the millions of other students in our exact same predicament.

What it does

It monitors the user in how focused they are as well as their level of fatigue based on their eye movements and their body posture.

How we built it

We built Focal Point using Lovable for the web app and Codex for the native Mac app in Swift. From there, we iterated and shaped every output to match our ideas across both platforms.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into challenges with the UI's consistency. Some worked well in the web version, but does not translate well on the Mac version. To end with a polished feel for both versions, it required us to perform multiple iterations of UI layouts and editing how items interact with each other until both platforms feel native yet intentional.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how we are able to produce this project in our limited amount of time with efficiency in being able to publish a web app and a native Mac app.

What we learned

We learned how to manage our time well and the effort necessary to get the task done and produce it professionally. We learned to use AI both as a development tool to speed up our workflow and to help us match our creative vision.

What's next for Focal Point

For Focal Point, we can further add resources and ways to detect fatigue, whether it is physical or mental. We also believe that it will eventually become a companion in students' wellness, not just as a monitoring tool.
