Inspiration
Memes these days sometimes include Minecraft parkour videos, or subway surfer videos alongside the main video content. This is done in order to keep people's attention as it has been, rather sadly, shortening in the last few years.
What it does
If you need entertainment videos to stay focused on media, how much more help will you need to stay focused while taking notes, or studying? Well, our note taking site does just this for you. You can log in to access your notes, and then choose one to work on and edit and watch a Minecraft video on the side of your screen.
How we built it
We used the Django framework, which ended up being a lot of HTML, CSS and Python.
Challenges we ran into
We had never created a serious project in Django, so this was partially learning how the framework works, so things like models and forms and user authentication was a bit tricky to figure out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of ourselves for staying up all night and working on it till it was... still not done... We are also proud of how much effort we put into the project. The visual presentation of the page is also something that we are proud of because it let us reference the stereotypical form of note taking while also moving into the future of notes.
What we learned
We learned how to use Django to the extent where we would actually feel comfortable doing something similar again for a personal project. We learned a lot more about CSS as well, like the difference between aligning items in the center and justifying content in the center. We also learned how to work with each other and play to each others strengths.
What's next for Focal Point
First, we need to host it, probably on google cloud, as well as get a domain name. We also have a lot of touch ups to do on how it looks and it's still a bit buggy. Then, there are lots more features we would like to add, as well as a more diverse set of videos. One of the features that we want to add is a study button on each of the note documents that takes you to a page that encourages studying through a combination of the the active recall/retrieval method and blurting method. Expanding on the project through putting these different study methods will help people who don't have the focus to just stare at a page and study. It will instead challenge them to look inside of themselves and what they know in order to truly learn it.
