Inspiration

In an age of pervasive digital noise and AI over-saturation, we inspire nostalgia, bring a sense of calm, and help users grow in their understanding of meaningful time. FocalAI is not just “another AI”; it is a tool designed to bring clarity to a world dominated by artificial intelligence. It teaches you to slow down and prioritize meaningful, engaged learning.

What it does

The FocalAI desktop app measures user productivity through gamified metadata, creating a narrative flow that engages a user’s awareness of their personal autonomy.

It works by counteracting the pervasive algorithms designed to capture attention for extended periods at users. The app analyses your dopaminergic wiring and provides constructive reinforcement strategies to offset unhelpful patterns. Users are rewarded with seedling growth potential, mimicking the synaptic development of the human brain.

How we built it

The frontend was built using TypeScript in an Electron and Node.js environment. The GUI was tailored using React snippets. Furthermore, an AWS instance using Cognito Auth was built to handle user score tracking in a MongoDB data state management across (Win / Mac / Linux) platforms. The App further included OLama frameworks 3.2, all locally instantiated to secure users privacy.

BONUS: No user meta-data is shared with the social platform, only minimally gamified social stats.

One of our proudest achievements is the development of our AWS server and metadata tracking system, which enabled us to craft a meaningful narrative around user-focused productivity in an increasingly noisy world.
