Inspiration I was motivated by the growing menace of identity theft, fraud and the painful KYC in digital banking. With 80% of data breaches resulting from poor passwords and paper-piles washed over your customers, I set about redesigning identity verification in which users possess their data and artificial intelligence staves off fraud in advance.

What it does

  1. FNB SecureID is a self-sovereign identity (SSI) solution that:
  2. Kills passwords with biometrics (face/finger) and blockchain-driven ID.
  3. Allows users to share authenticated credentials without leaking data.
  4. Leverages AI to identify fraud in real time for e.g abnormal transactions lead to immediate notifications.
  5. Logs into work from bank to healthcare. For instance, making a 30-second loan application by sharing pre-verified income proof from your SecureID wallet.

How I Built It Frontend: HTML, CSS and JavaScript Backend: C# for identity verification Authentication: Firebase Auth and WebAuth for passwordless logins. AI Fraud Detection: Integrated google cloud ai

Prototype Features

  1. Digital ID wallet: Stores encrypted credentials.
  2. “Share Proof” Buttons
  3. Fraud Alert System
  4. One-tap “Verify Me” buttons.
  5. Firebase Authentication.
  6. User confirmation prompts.

Challenges We Ran Into

  1. Security and usability in harmony: On the interaction of zero-knowledge proofs and user interfaces.
  2. Fingerprint scanner delays and the struggle to debug biometric integration.

Accomplishments I am proud of

  1. Demo-able prototype: Developed a ssi wallet prototype in 72 hours.
  2. User focus: Tried with non-techies to be easy to understand.

What I Learned

  1. Privacy Pays: People want to manage the destiny of their data.
  2. AI Needs Guardrails: Fraud detection needs to minimize false alarms.
  3. Interoperability is crucial: SSI must operate across applications (and not sole in banking).

What’s Next for FNB SecureID

  1. Pilot with FNB: Test with real customers for KYC/loan applications.
  2. Quantum-resistant encryption: Future-proof against next-gen hacks.
  3. Long-term vision: Make FNB the trust anchor of Africa’s digital economy.

Why This Matters FNB SecureID doesn’t just fight fraud, it rewrites the rules of digital trust, aligning with FNB’s mission to be the Bank of the Future.
