About the project
This project was inspired by the decline in passenger confidence in air travel due to recent aviation incidents, mechanical failures, and communication gaps. With safety concerns rising, passengers increasingly seek transparency, real-time updates, and control over their flight experience. Our goal was to design a passenger-facing app that provides real-time aircraft safety insights, flight risk assessments, and proactive alerts to restore trust in air travel.
Inspiration
The idea stemmed from a series of high-profile aviation incidents that raised concerns about safety, airline accountability, and communication failures. According to recent studies:
Passenger confidence has dropped from 71% to 64% in a year. A 20% increase in travelers believing flying is unsafe was reported. 86% of passengers feel reassured when they receive real-time safety updates. By addressing these concerns, we aimed to give travelers real-time control over their safety information and improve transparency between airlines and passengers.
What it does
Our app provides real-time aircraft safety data directly to passengers, helping them make informed travel decisions. Key features include: ✅ Flight Risk Assessments – Real-time turbulence forecasts, weather conditions, and flight route safety. ✅ In-Flight Live Updates – Status of aircraft and emergency protocols. ✅ Passenger Experience Reports – Crowdsourced safety feedback and transparency on onboard conditions. The app empowers passengers with data airlines often don’t communicate openly, allowing for safer, more confident travel experiences.
How we built it
We followed a research-driven design process, incorporating real-time data integration and user-focused UI/UX principles: User-Centered Design Process:
Conducted secondary research on passenger psychology, airline transparency, and crisis communication. Designed intuitive UI components (safety scorecards, real-time risk assessment dashboards, and alerts). Iterated based on usability testing, ensuring the app provides clear, actionable information without overwhelming users.
What we learned
🔹 Passengers value control and reassurance more than technical details. 🔹 Real-time updates reduce anxiety by up to 30%.
