Inspiration
We were inspired by apps like bandintown to make an app that shows you events from your Instagram feed.
What it does
The app allows you to put accounts from Instagram onto the app, and if it detects an event on your feed it gets put on the app and you're able to add it to your calendar.
How we built it
We used a combination of the apify Instagram scraper to get the post from Instagram, along with chatgpt in order to decipher the output of the scraper and turn it into a .Json file. We then had the app read the file and have it be able to turn it into a calendar
Challenges we ran into
We ran into the challenge of not being able to run the scraper and Claude locally, so we had to create a server the phone connects to in order to receive the data
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The app works and it is something that we would use in our everyday lives!
What we learned
We all had to learn how to use android studio as it was all of our first times using it. We also had to learn how to setup a Python server
What's next for Flyr
We'd want to see how to lower costs as much as possible if we were to ship it out, as both the Instagram scraper and chatgpt use money to run. We would also like to make a more in depth notification system for the app.
