Inspiration

With the ongoing war of Russia and Ukraine, nobody really knows what innocent civilians go through. So we decided to make "fun" game that informs future users of how these civilians are losing their lives on a daily basis. And hopefully, we try to influence others to donate or do whatever they can to help the people in Ukraine.

What it does

The app is a game basically. There are two levels, the first level is an easy trial while the second level is a bit difficult. The objective is that you would hover your mouse over the pilot flying the airplane and try to score as much points as possible. When you lose, different outcomes of how real civilians have died will pop up. These outcomes allows users to be informed about how real people have died in the current war. Unfortunately there is no winning.

How we built it

We built this app using Code.org. Essentially, JavaScript but in simpler forms. Yes Code.org is seen to be as a beginner level website but it's something we are familiar with since we are taking classes on how to code on code.org. Keep in mind we are very new coding and tried are best in this. This is our first hackathon of many to come.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we ran into was trying to get to outcomes of how the user died to work. We tried different types of codes to see if it can be displayed. We tried lists or functions that could possibly update the screen. It took us a while to finally get to work and we were exciting and tired as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Both of us are proud of the design of the app. We tried to make to make it based on cities in Ukraine. Level is Mariupol and level 2 is Chernihiv. We are also proud of how to game fully functions and that the code actually works. We hope that informs you and other users about the current situation.

What we learned

We definitely learned how to improve our code and debug as well. We learned new methods to add to our code to make it more simpler and easier for us and the app to understand.

What's next for Flying Over Ukraine

Of course like any group here we hope to win. However, we also just want others to informed the situation and not only to have fun but to be informed and maybe be inspired to create an app about Ukraine or donate or try to help Ukraine.
