flying mods XR
Not a game, but a Mixed Reality Experience: In "flying mods XR" for the Quest 3, you control — in a Simulation — one of six fantasy drones with individual camouflage, FPV camera, sound, and spotlight, to freely place a variety of miniature gadgets in your living space — Experience. "flying mods" (link are post-technological meditations of multi copters, visual extraordinary exciting objects, which act out the artistic fascinating ideas of the many possible interpretations of the design of the drone in VR. The gadgets range from a wide variety of 3D-realistic trees, grasses, and flowers to rock formations, houses, and vehicles, all the way to insects flying freely in the space.
History of work: As early as the mid-90s I was interested in CD-ROM multimedia programming, digital video (using Intels Digital Video Interactive (DVI) Platform, Fast Technologies and Apples QuickTime), and Virtual Reality. With the turn of the millennium in 2000, robotics came into the picture: BEAM Robots, CYBUGs, Lego Mindstorms RCX - NXT, Arduino robots like Arduinos CC/ROBOT, EV3 & Lego Technic programmed with LabVIEW, the TELLO Drone, and finally the DJI ROBOMASTER, controlled by a Raspberry Pi and Python programming. When the Oculus Rift DK2 was released in 2014, it was my first VR headset. Then the Samsung Gear VR and later the Valve Index were the most important experimental goggles. From 2015 onwards, I built my first hobby drones, and in parallel, I worked on my first VR apps in Unity. This evolved at the end of the decade into the app "Architecture Flyover VR", programmed with Unity 2019 and the Professional Assets Drone Package (version: 2.3), a large open world in which the user flies a fantasy drone through multiple architectural worlds to overcome large distances and then continues moving in normal teleportation mode after landing... The combination of the Meta Quest 3 with passthrough mode, my 3D models of fantasy drones and Professional Assets Drone Package for Unity made it possible over the last year to achieve this and more with the app "flying mods XR" presented here.
Related projects: Fantasy Drones: "flying mods" (link are post-technological meditations of multi copters, visual extraordinary exciting objects, which act out the artistic fascinating ideas of the may possible interpretations of the design of the drone. A lot can be done with the countless, seldom flown and deadly boring quadcopters forgotten in hobby basements or high up on boys wardrobes. It is about time, that commercial high tech products such as drones and robots are not just toys or weapons, but are also caught up by the fine arts. Newly bought multi copters are generally quite ugly as they come out of the box. Either they look similar to malformed white GRP amoebas or are like black carbon insects from a distant SciFi galaxy. With cardboard, Styrofoam, balsa wood, paper mâché, Epoxy and fabrics, felt, feathers or paints and some creativity i want to fashion the outer appearance of the copter completely after my own taste, while making sure, they still fly. LED strips managed by the flight controller can conjure up the most fantastic light effects especially on an evening sky.
Architecture Flyover VR is a virtual 3D world, that is paying tribute to the subjects of architecture, nature and art. Inspired by a concept of modern art - diorama sculptures (by Jake & Dinos Chapman et al.), Architecture Flyover VR is a virtual diorama of the digital 21st Century, one in which the viewer can saunter, explore the sites and even fly like a bird. The user can explore inspiring architecture in works from the past to the future, nature (parks, a forest and a high plateau of meadows) as well as art and furniture of the last century (Bauhaus) to today in a first person perspective along with fantastic mechanical birds. He/she can arrange various pieces of the furniture and other objects of art at free will in a kind of dollhouse, the open-faced replica of my apartment (penthouse style on the top floor and terrace of the central building). Or fly a quadcopter toy drone made from LEGO pieces to the many sights - employing a virtual FPV controller simulator (fashioned after the original YUNNEC Typhoon H ST16 remote controller) - to traverse large distances, where the user can explore the local surroundings by foot. This seems to me an ideal mode of teleporting in VR, since it enables the user to cover large distances as well as enjoy the experience of flying over a virtual world in First Person View.
