🚀 FlyCarry: Project Story

✨ About the Project

FlyCarry is a platform that connects people who want to send packages internationally with travelers who have spare luggage space. The goal is simple: make shipping affordable, and traveling rewarding.

Inspired by personal experiences and everyday conversations within our community, we realized that sending gifts to friends and family abroad is painfully expensive, and often depends on knowing someone who’s traveling soon.

We asked:

What if we could match senders with trusted travelers, and make it easy, social, and cost-effective?

And that’s how FlyCarry was born.

💡 Inspiration

We’ve all waited for a cousin or friend flying home to carry something for us. But that "trusted traveler" network has always been informal, inconsistent, and hard to manage. With the Bolt Hackathon approaching, we finally had the push to turn this recurring pain point into a product.

🛠️ How We Built It

We designed and developed FlyCarry in just a few days:

Frontend: Built using React with a mobile-friendly UI
Backend: Powered by Supabase for real-time database and auth
Authentication:
- Phone login via Twilio OTP
- Google Sign-In
- Email Sign-In
Deployment: Hosted on Netlify for fast and easy CI/CD
Airport Data: Integrated a complete database of airports to easily add and search flight details

🚧 Challenges Faced

Time Constraints: Building and polishing an end-to-end MVP in less than a week was intense.
User Flow Design: Ensuring the send-book-carry flow felt intuitive across different devices.
Authentication Setup: Implementing Twilio OTP and multi-auth in a short timeframe took careful testing.
Trust Factor: Building features like "Friends Circle" and in-app messaging to add transparency and confidence.

🌍 What We Learned

The power of building around real-world needs—this idea was born from conversations, not just code.
Supabase was a game-changer for quick backend implementation.
Hackathons force clarity—we learned how to prioritize, cut scope, and ship fast.
