Inspiration
This project was inspired by the shortcomings of other flight booking sites. Popular options like Google Flights and Kayak are restrictive in their search, clunky to use, and hard to figure out the best deal. We wanted to change that with Fly.py.
What it does
Fly.py is able to pull from the Aviationstack API and fetch info on upcoming flights. The user is then able to search through the flights, filling in as much or as little data as they want. Fly.py will tell them all options that meet those criteria, as well as allowing them to sort by price, distance, and airline.
How we built it
This project utilizes a vanilla HTML/CSS/JavaScript frontend with a Python Flask backend that handles the flight API data.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into issues merging branches in Git, as many times a conflict would cause an error in the program when run.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were generally able to achieve what we set out to do. The project works as intended and was a collaborative effort between all of the members of the team.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned about how to structure a backend using Flask, as well as a deeper understanding of frontend design and JavaScript.
What's next for Fly.py
Fly.py could expand by being deployed, as well as connecting to a fully paid API rather than relying on synthetic data.
