Fly-N-Ryde
Description
A Rails app that matches users who are looking to share taxis from an airport.
Background
This ride-share web app was built to help users leaving the NYC area airports connect with other people who are also arriving in the same airport within a few hours of the user's arrival time, and leaving for a destination in the same borough. This web app was created with three other team members.
Features
- Applied OAuth through Uber for user sign-in
- Incorporated Uber API to get available drivers, and also give the user a better ride-share experience through Uber's split pay option
- Leveraged the Geocode gem to write algorithms to determine the distance between the ride-share destinations for a shorter travel time and
- Architected algorithms to find or reject user matches based on trip date, time, and final destination locations
Usage
Sign in through Uber. Make your profile. Add a destination to your profile. Click "Find A Carpool Buddy" to enter your trip information. Submit Your flight information. Choose a buddy based on the arrival time that works best for your trip. View your ride confirmation page. If your buddy arrives before you, they will request the Uber ride through their link and you will contact them when you land through the link on the page. Uber will give you a split pay option for both you and your buddy to split the cost of your airport ride! If your flight changes, cancel your ride share.
