Inspiration

One of our team members struggled to talk with their grandparents because of a language barrier and they have never been able to communicate throughout their entire life.

What it does

A video call application that translates languages for users so that they can understand each other.

How we built it

We built the frontend using TypeScript, React 18, and JavaScript. For the backend, we used Node.js. For live-communication, we used socket.io for multiplayer connection and we also used WebRTC. We worked hard to make everything work properly and we also utilized ElevenLabs API.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled for a while trying to get ElevenLabs implemented, but we eventually did and it works as intended.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how well the translations are and the design of the application.

What we learned

We learned how to work efficiently under-timed pressure because this is the first hackathon of the majority of our team members. We learned how to communicate efficiently and work with different branches to make a good project.

What's next for Fluid

Continue to polish the app, create a mobile application, and implement more languages.
