FluApp is a mobile portal comprising of all your flu information depending on who accesses the portal. It has been implemented as both an android application and a mobile website for non-android phones such as the Iphone and desktop browsers such as chrome and mozilla. FluApp has been developed with three different categories of people in mind each being provided with different flu information: Adults - This displays basic information about Influenza, its symptoms, preventative measures and natural treatments which offers text to speech for the android application (the natural treatments can be translated into speech). Kids - This displays basic information about influenza and germs, prevention, how its spread and treatment. The description and language used in this section is simplified for the target group. Healthcare Workers - This section displays the types of influenza virus, its symptoms and available treatment. In this section more technical terms are used. In addition to that, All the pages in this application have been translated into 5 different languages namely: English, Afrikaans, French, Portuguese and Swahili (The translations have not been proofread due to lack of time and professional translators). Lastly three different RSS feeds have been added to the application: RSS feed of influenza pages. RSS feed of influenza podcasts. RSS feed of influenza updates. This application can run offline on android devices but internet access is required for the RSS feeds! The advantage of installing the application on android devices as opposed to using a web browser (mobile / desktop) is that it makes use of the text to speech engine found in these android devices. It has been tested on an HTC Desire / Nexus 1 running android 2.2
